Gas station clerk dies after altercation

The Edmonton Police Service is investigating the death of a man after he was involved in an altercation last week.

On Friday, Oct. 23, 2015 just before 3:30 p.m., Southeast Division police officers responded to a call of a trouble not known at a gas station in the area of 75 Avenue and 50 Street. It was reported that a male customer at the gas station was involved in a physical dispute with a male employee. EMS treated and transported the employee to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

On Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2015, the employee died in hospital. An autopsy took place on Thursday, Oct. 29, 2015 and the death of Surinder Pal Singh, 61, was declared a homicide. The cause of death was head trauma.   

Detectives have interviewed the male that was involved in the altercation.  Currently, he is not in custody and not facing charges at this time.

EPS Homicide Section continues to investigate.

This is Edmonton’s 19th homicide in 2015.
