Edmonton Police Service officers will be lacing up their skates for a friendly game of hockey at the McCauley ice rink this afternoon, Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2015 at 1 p.m.

The game marks the 7th annual McCauley Cup. The hockey game was originally introduced by a Downtown Beat police officer who wanted to bridge the gap between the EPS and the community. Since, the game has grown in popularity and no matter the weather, youth from the neighbourhood are always ready to showcase their new skills to the police officers and spectators.

“The positive relationships between the youth and police officers that are built during events like this are invaluable,” says Const. Terrance Jakubowski, with Downtown Division and organizer of the McCauley Cup. “Today’s game is extra special as it marks the official launch of the new and improved McCauley community rink.”

The puck drops at 1 p.m. at the McCauley outdoor skating rink, located at 96 Street and 108 Avenue. All media are invited to the game for photo/video opportunities.

Players and visitors will be able to enjoy a bonfire. Hot drinks and snacks will be provided.

All spectators are encouraged to bring a non-perishable donation to the Edmonton Food Bank.

The Edmonton Police Service would like to thank the following sponsors: Edmonton Police Foundation, the McCauley Community League, United Cycle, Elite Sports and Awards, Edmonton Oilers Hockey Club, Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation, Edmonton Oilers Alumni and the Italian Bakery for their support in the 7th Annual McCauley Cup.
