At approximately 8:20 a.m., West Division officers responded to a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. It was reported that a woman was walking southbound on the east side of Groat Road, across 111 Avenue, when she was struck in a marked crosswalk. The male driver of a Ford pickup was travelling southbound on Groat Road, before turning east on 111 Avenue, when the vehicle struck the woman. The 81-year-old female pedestrian succumbed to her injuries en route to hospital.
Alcohol or speed is not believed to be factors in this collision and charges have not been laid at this time.
The EPS Major Collision Investigation Unit continues to investigate.
This is Edmonton’s fourth traffic fatality of 2016.
