Shortly before 1 a.m., a liquor store in the area of 66 Avenue and 178 Street was allegedly robbed with a weapon. A police officer who was in the area at the time on an unrelated matter was able to follow the suspect who was in a stolen Ford Fusion. Air-1 arrived on scene a short time later and tracked the suspect’s vehicle for over an hour. Police ended the criminal flight when the suspect was driving erratically, driving through red lights and traveling at speeds up to 140 km/h.
Police tactics were used to stop the suspect’s vehicle in the area of 97 Street and Sturgeon Road. The Edmonton Police Service Tactical Unit took the suspect into custody.
Mathieu Plamondon, 26, has been charged with robbery and dangerous driving, being disguised during the commission of offence and possession of a weapon.
