Fenton was sent to hospital after fire broke out at an apartment complex in the area of 115 Street and 107 Avenue at approximately 7:40 a.m. on Nov. 29, 2015. He succumbed to his injuries in hospital on Dec. 4, 2015. The Edmonton Medical Examiner determined the man died as a result of injuries sustained in the fire.
Detectives from the EPS Homicide Section and Arson Unit took over the file and connected a suspect to the fire and man’s death through investigation over the past nine months.
Yesterday, detectives charged Dakota Kashtin Cappo, 23, with first degree murder and arson with disregard for human life. Cappo is currently in custody at the Edmonton Remand Centre on unrelated matters.
The accused and the deceased were not known to each other. Police are not searching for any further suspects.
