Edmonton Police Service officers and City of Edmonton automated enforcement handed out 3,234 violations during the Operation 24 Hours campaign this month.

Throughout the campaign, which took place on Friday, Oct. 7, 2016, a total of 2,645 speeding tickets were issued by EPS officers and automated enforcement combined, throughout the city. Traffic Safety Act violations, such as seatbelt infractions or distracted driving, accounted for 216 of the total violations. Officers also issued 14 charges for Criminal Code offenses, seven of which included impaired driving.

These numbers are a slight decrease from the 3,583 violations issued during the August 2016 enforcement blitz.

The Edmonton Police Service and the City of Edmonton coordinate regular enforcement campaigns throughout the year, such as Operation 24 Hours, to improve traffic safety on Edmonton’s roadways.
