An ETS bus driver has been charged under the Traffic Safety Act in connection with the death of a 13-year-old female pedestrian struck and killed on Nov. 26, 2016, in a crosswalk on 137 Avenue and 40 Street.

Investigators with the assistance of the Crown Prosecutor have charged Judith Jackson, 62, of Edmonton, with Fail to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, under the Traffic Safety Act.

Background:
On Saturday, Nov. 26, 2016 at approximately 7:40 p.m., officers from Northeast Division responded to a report of a collision involving a pedestrian and an unknown vehicle in the area of 137 Avenue and 40 Street.

It was reported a 13-year-old female pedestrian was crossing 137 Avenue southbound on 40 Street in a marked crosswalk, when she was struck by an Edmonton Transit System bus.

As a result of investigations undertaken by the EPS Major Collision Investigation Unit, it was determined the pedestrian was struck and dragged a short distance by an ETS bus making a left turn (eastbound) onto 137 Avenue from southbound on 40 Street.

Emergency Medical Services attended the intersection and the pedestrian was declared deceased on scene.
