Man charged with second-degree murder in death of 66-year-old male

Homicide detectives have arrested and charged a 59-year-old man with second-degree murder in the death of an Edmonton man over the weekend.

Carl Perteet, 59, was taken into custody and subsequently charged with the death of Donald Alfred Carruthers, 66, Sunday, Feb. 5, 2016. It was reported to investigators that a violent altercation occurred between Pereet and Carruthers, the latter of whom was a visitor to the 151 Street residence where he died early Sunday morning.  

Autopsy results undertaken by the Medical Examiner’s Office Monday afternoon, confirm that Carruthers died as a result of multiple blunt force injuries.

Perteet is scheduled to make his first court appearance on Tuesday, Feb. 7 at 9 a.m.

Background:
West Division patrol officers initially responded to a suite in an apartment building near 101 Avenue and 151 Street, at approximately 4:50 a.m., Sunday, Feb. 5, 2017.

 

Upon arrival, officers found a male, believed to be in his 60s, deceased inside the suite.
