Northeast patrol members responded to a 911 assault complaint at an address in the Evergreen Mobile Home Park, at approximately 11:45 p.m., Wednesday, July 12, 2017.
It was reported to police that a 38-year-old male and a 19-year-old male engaged in a physical confrontation, which led to the older male sustaining life-threatening head injuries. The 38-year-old male was treated and transported to hospital by paramedics, where he succumbed to his injuries on July 15th.
In consultation with the Crown, EPS Homicide investigators will not be laying charges. The death has since been determined to be non-culpable.
This marks Edmonton’s 28th homicide of 2017.
Every investigation is evaluated on a case by case basis. The EPS has decided not to release the name of the deceased or the accused in this investigation for the following reasons: it does not serve an investigative purpose, there is no risk to public safety and the EPS has a duty to protect the privacy rights of the victims and their families.
The Edmonton Medical Examiner has confirmed that a 38-year-old Edmonton man died in hospital on Saturday, July 15, 2017, the result of blunt force trauma to the head in connection to an altercation that occurred on July 12, 2017.
