The Edmonton Police Service has arrested and charged two males in connection with a recent arson series in Callingwood.

Two suspects were identified following the release of surveillance images through media on July 27th. The two accused males are believed to be responsible for setting nine fires in Callingwood, near a church, a school, a condo unit and a dark park.

One of the teens is a Young Offender; the other being an 18-year-old male.

The youth is charged with arson (x4); the 18-year-old male is facing five counts of arson.

The identity of the youth is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Every investigation is evaluated on a case by case basis. The EPS has decided not to release the name of the 18 year old accused in this investigation for the following reasons: it does not serve an investigative purpose.

Background:
Southwest Division detectives investigated a recent arson series, which took place between July 15-26, 2017.

Investigators allege the suspects were responsible for nine arsons throughout the southwest neighbourhood, including three fires involving garbage cans, logs and a propane tank in a dog park near 69 Avenue and 172 Street.
