Autopsy confirms Edmonton’s 30th homicide

The Edmonton Police Service continues to investigate the homicide of a male that occurred in the early morning hours on Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2017.

The Edmonton Medical Examiner completed an autopsy on the 49-year-old male and determined the cause of death to be stab wounds. The manner of death is a homicide.

 

Homicide detectives are looking for William John Robert Monkman, 33, who is wanted for second degree murder.

 

Monkman is described as an Indigenous male, with black hair and has a moustache and goatee. He is about 5’8” tall and has a pierced left ear.

 

The public is asked not to approach Monkman. Please call police if you have information about his whereabouts.

Every file is evaluated on a case by case basis. The EPS has decided not to release the name of the deceased in this investigation for the following reasons: it does not serve an investigative purpose, there is no risk to public safety and the EPS has a duty to protect the privacy rights of the victims and their families.

Background

 

The Edmonton Police Service Homicide Section is investigating a suspicious death that occurred in northeast Edmonton shortly after 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2017.

 

Northeast Division patrol officers responded to a weapons complaint a residential address in the area of 118 Avenue and 54 Street. 

 

EMS and EPS arrived and found a man suffering from a stab wound(s). EMS treated and transported a male to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
