Edmonton Police Service officers along with its municipal and provincial partners, inspected 162 commercial vehicles during the operation, 85 of which were deemed to be “out of service” for various issues compromising road safety.
Twenty of these vehicles were towed from the inspection location, as a result of dangerous conditions.
Of the remaining 77 vehicles checked, only 47 were found to have no defects (29%). A total of 459 defects were found throughout the check with 101 violation tickets issued over the three-day operation.
One 24-hr suspension was also issued for a driver found in possession of marijuana.
This three-tonne cube truck recently failed a commercial vehicle inspection conducted by EPS CVID and its partners Sept. 12-14.
The vehicle was travelling on broken leaf springs, which were precariously attached to the rear axle. The vehicle has since been taken off the road.
