A woman who was struck in a marked crosswalk earlier this month, succumbed to her injuries in hospital yesterday, Friday, Oct. 20, 2017.
Daniel Douglas Miles, 46, has been charged with failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk under the Traffic Safety Act (Use of Highway and Rules of the Road Regulation).
Speed and alcohol were not factors in the collision.
This marks Edmonton’s 24th traffic fatality of the year.
Background
At approximately 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2017 a 70-year-old female was crossing 87 Avenue at 169 Street in a marked crosswalk when she was struck by a 2013 Nissan Altima.
Investigations revealed that the vehicle was travelling northbound on 169 Street turning west onto 87 Avenue at the time of the collision.
The pedestrian suffered multiple serious injuries and was sent to hospital in critical condition.
