Autopsy completed for first homicide of 2018

The suspicious death that occurred on New Year ’s Day is Edmonton’s 1st homicide of 2018.

The Edmonton Medical Examiner completed the autopsy today, Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018, and investigators have determined the manner of death of Ruben (Ben) Baker, 21, to be a homicide. To protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation, the cause of death will not be released at this time.

 

Homicide detectives continue to seek information about where Mr. Baker was residing and where he had been just prior to his death.

Background

At approximately 1:20 p.m. Monday, Jan. 1, 2018, Southeast Division officers responded to the report of a deceased male found in the area of 92 Avenue and 77 Street.

 

Homicide Section is investigating.

 

Every file is evaluated on a case by case basis. The EPS has decided to release the name of the deceased as it serves an investigative purpose.
