Autopsy results confirm cause of death in southwest Edmonton homicide

An autopsy conducted by the Edmonton Medical Examiner today has confirmed that Harry Gillis, 25, died of gunshot wounds.

At approximately 1 a.m. on Thursday, May 24, 2018, Southwest Division police responded to reports of gunshots fired in the area of 111 Street and 23 Avenue. A short time later, it was reported that a 25-year-old male arrived at a hospital with gunshot wounds. The victim had been shot while sitting in the rear seat of a taxi cab. The taxi driver, who was not involved in the shooting, immediately contacted the taxi company’s dispatch and transported the victim to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries at approximately 6 a.m. yesterday.

 

Homicide Section has deemed the manner of death to be homicide. Detectives continue to investigate.

 

Every file is evaluated on a case by case basis. The EPS has decided to release the name of the deceased as it serves an investigative purpose.
