A 78-year-old man is in hospital with life-threatening injuries, after being struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross Fort Road early Saturday morning.

UPDATE:

Further to the news release, the driver of the vehicle is also alleged to have briefly left the collision scene, thus making this a hit-and-run collision.

MCIS continues to investigate

Northeast Patrol members responded to a roadway under construction near Fort Road and just south of 129 Avenue, at approximately 12:35 a.m. today, Saturday, August 04, 2018, after receiving a 911 call regarding a collision.

It was reported to police that the elderly male was attempting to cross Fort Road travelling from the east side of the northbound lanes to the west side of the southbound lanes, when he was struck in the outer southbound lane by a 2014 White Mazda CX5 being driven by a 24-year-old female.

Paramedics treated and transported the male to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

While the investigation remains in its preliminary stages, police believe the male pedestrian was not crossing the road at a legal crosswalk.

The EPS Major Collision Investigation Section has since taken over the investigation.

No charges have been laid at this time, though the collision still remains under investigation.

Anyone who witnessed this collision is asked to contact the EPS at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone. Anonymous information can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.tipsubmit.com/start.htm.
