Female inmate remains at large, following escape from institution

The Edmonton Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance to locate a 34-year-old female inmate who escaped from the Edmonton Institution for Women in west Edmonton earlier this evening.

Samantha Towedo, 34, escaped after climbing over a fence at the institution, located at 111 Avenue and 178 Street, at approximately 7:50 p.m. tonight, Wednesday, August 22, 2018.

West Division patrol members and EPS Canine Unit members responded to the scene, but were unable to locate Towedo. She was last seen running eastbound towards 176 Street.

Towedo is described as being an indigenous female, approximately 5’5” tall, 140 pounds (see photo below). She was last observed wearing black runners, black shorts, and black tank top.
 


She is a violent offender and is considered dangerous.
