Female driver facing charges in connection with traffic fatality

A 23-year-old Edmonton woman is facing charges in connection with the death of a 78-year-old man who died on Aug. 7th, as a result of injuries sustained during an earlier hit-and-run collision on Fort Road.

Pritshma Singh, 23, of Edmonton, who was driving a 2014 White Mazda CX5, allegedly struck the elderly male near Fort Road just south of 129 Avenue, at approximately 12:35 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 4, 2018.

Singh is alleged to have left the scene of the collision, before being pulled over during a traffic stop by EPS Northeast Division members a short period later.

Paramedics treated and transported the injured male pedestrian to hospital with life-threatening injuries on Saturday, Aug. 4. He would eventually succumb to his injuries three days later on Aug. 7, 2018.
                      
Investigators laid charges against the female driver yesterday, Friday, Aug. 24, 2018.

Singh is charged with Fail to remain at a collision causing death under the Criminal Code, and Careless driving under the Traffic Safety Act.

 

Background:
Northeast Patrol members responded to a roadway under construction near Fort Road and just south of 129 Avenue, at approximately 12:35 a.m. on Saturday, August 04, 2018, after receiving a 911 call regarding a collision.

 

It was reported to police that an elderly male was attempting to cross Fort Road travelling from the east side of the northbound lanes to the west side of the southbound lanes, when he was struck in the outer southbound lane by a 2014 White Mazda CX5 being driven by a 23-year-old female.
