The Edmonton Police Service has arrested a 24-year-old male following a stabbing and subsequent crime spree this morning, Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2018.

At approximately 7:50 a.m. this morning, Southwest Division officers responded to a report of an assault with a weapon in the area of 67 Avenue and 115 Street.

Upon arrival, officers located a 19-year-old male suffering from stab wounds.

It was reported to police that a male suspect stabbed another male on the South Campus LRT platform. The suspect then reportedly fled the scene on foot.

EMS responded, treated and transported the male victim to hospital with serious injuries.

A short time later, at approximately 8 a.m., police responded to a report of a robbery at a business in the area of 57 Avenue and 111 Street.

It was reported to police that a male suspect entered the business, assaulted an employee and stole merchandise. The male then reportedly left the business and approached a vehicle in the parking lot, demanding that the female driver take him away from the scene. When the driver refused, the suspect allegedly jumped into her vehicle on the passenger side and grabbed her. The female was able to break free and exit the vehicle. The suspect then reportedly stole the female’s 2017 Cadillac XTS and fled the business’ parking lot southbound on 111 Street.

EMS responded and treated the male employee at the scene for minor injuries. The female driver did not sustain any injuries.

Thanks to an electronic vehicle monitoring system, West Division officers were able to locate the vehicle parked behind a business in the area of 179 Street and 106 A Avenue.

Upon police arrival, the male suspect reportedly tried to flee the scene in the vehicle and when prevented from doing so, exited the vehicle. As officers attempted to arrest the male, a brief altercation took place and the suspect broke free of the arresting police members, fleeing the area on foot.

Moments later, at approximately 8:30 a.m., the suspect was apprehended in the area of 181 Street and 107 Avenue with assistance from the EPS Canine Unit.

The 24-year-old male suspect is now in custody and charges are pending.

At this time, police do not believe the suspect was known to the individuals involved in this series of events.
