An Edmonton Police Service officer was charged today, Jan. 10, 2019, in relation to an alleged incident involving the accidental discharge of a firearm in 2017.

It was reported to police that on May 26, 2017, EPS Const. Jack Klick, with two-and-a-half years of service, was at home cleaning his personal firearm.

After the officer finished cleaning his weapon, a single round was fired. The bullet travelled out through his patio door, and was not recovered.

There were no injuries sustained to the officer or anyone inside or outside of the residence, as he was home alone and off duty at the time.

The officer immediately reported this event to EPS and secured his firearm.

Today, Const. Klick was charged with one count of careless use of a firearmand released on a promise to appear in court.

No further information or comment is available at this time, as the case is now before the courts.
