Pedestrian succumbs to injuries following Stony Plain Road collision

The 32-year-old man who sustained life-threatening injuries after being struck by a truck on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2019 succumbed to his injuries in hospital today, Thursday, Jan. 24, 2019. 
The EPS Major Collision Investigations Section has determined that the male’s death is non-criminal. No charges are being laid against the 55-year-old driver of the truck.
 
Background
 
At approximately 8:50 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2019, West Division police officers responded to the report of a collision in the area of Stony Plain Road and 215 Street (Winterburn Road). Witnesses reported to police that a loaded semi-trailer dump truck travelling westbound on Stony Plain Road struck a pedestrian who stepped in front of the vehicle near the 215 Street overpass.
 
EMS responded, treated and transported the 32-year-old male pedestrian to hospital with life-threatening injuries. The 55-year-old male driver of the truck was not injured.
 
Officers closed Stony Plain Road westbound at 215 Street briefly to investigate the collision. The semi-trailer dump truck remained at the scene.
