Police lay charge in 2018 fatal hit-and-run collision

The Edmonton Police Service has charged a 63-year-old male in relation to a fatal hit-and-run collision that took place in November 2018.

Kam Wong, 63, was arrested and charged with criminal hit-and-run causing death. He has since been released and is expected in court on May 21, 2019.

 

Background

At approximately 5:45 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 4, 2018, Downtown Division Patrol officers responded to a pedestrian collision in the area of 106 A Avenue and 97 Street.

 

It was reported to police that an elderly male pedestrian was crossing from the east side to the west side of 97 Street at 106 A Avenue in an unmarked crosswalk when he was struck by a white 2013 Nissan NV2500 van travelling southbound on 97 Street. Witnesses reported that the van did not stop at the scene of the collision and continued travelling southbound on 97 Street.

 

EMS responded, treated and transported the 88-year-old male to hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

 

Following a search of the area, officers located the damaged, unoccupied van in the area of 97 Street and 106 Avenue.
