A 29-year-old man is facing several charges in connection to a Jan. 17, 2019 fatal collision on Yellowhead Trail, which claimed the life of a 69-year-old male driver.

Major Collision Investigations Section’ members have since concluded their investigation into the fatal collision, which occurred near 142 Street and Yellowhead Trail, at approximately 2:40 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 17, 2019.

It is alleged the 29-year-old male driver of a 2014 Freightliner semi-tractor-trailer unit rear-ended a 2008 Ford Escape being driven by the 69-year-old male, while travelling eastbound on Yellowhead Trail. Investigators believe the Ford Escape was slowing down to exit the Yellowhead eastbound at 144 Street, when the Freightliner failed to slow down, thus striking the Escape from behind.

Initially, the 69-year-old driver of the Ford Escape appeared to have only sustained minor injuries while on scene. The male was then taken to hospital, where his condition deteriorated. He eventually succumbed to his injuries later that morning.

Neither the 29-year-old driver of the Freightliner or his passenger suffered any injuries.

On Friday, May 3, 2019, EPS Major Collision investigators charged Amarjot Singh, 29, with careless driving under the Traffic Safety Act, and driver fail to record information required in a daily log during the day, as well as driver failed to produce a schedule 1 of the National Safety Code Standard 1 under the Commercial Vehicle Regulation Violations.
