Police lay charges in fatal pedestrian collision

The Edmonton Police Service has charged a 54-year-old male in relation to a fatal pedestrian collision that took place in December 2019.

Thomas Lewis, 54, is charged with careless driving and fail to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. He is expected in court on Feb. 5, 2020.

Background

At approximately 7:30 a.m., Monday, Dec. 2, 2019, West Division officers responded to the report of a collision in the area of 107 Avenue and 130 Street.

It was reported to police that a male pedestrian was crossing from the south to the north side of 107 Avenue at 130 Street in a marked crosswalk when he was struck by a Jeep Wrangler travelling westbound on 107 Avenue.

EMS responded, treated and transported the 52-year-old male pedestrian to hospital; however, he succumbed to his injuries. The 54-year-old male driver of the Jeep did not report any injuries.

Officers closed 107 Avenue westbound at 127 Street for several hours to investigate.
