Police seek public’s help with suspicious fire investigation

The Edmonton Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in connection to a suspicious fire that occurred recently at a south Edmonton fitness facility. 

On Saturday, May 16, 2020, at approximately 5 a.m., Edmonton Fire Rescue (EFR) responded to and extinguished a structure fire at a fitness facility near 41 Avenue and 101 Street. Witnesses nearby heard a loud explosion and observed a bright orange flash at the west-facing rear doors of the fitness club, before contacting 911.

Edmonton Police Service investigators have since taken over the investigation and are seeking the public’s assistance. Multiple gas jerry cans were discovered on scene by investigators following the blaze. Police are asking anyone who may have seen someone filling up multiple jerry cans with gasoline purchased between May 13 and May 16, 2020 to contact police.
