Public information and warning: Sexual offender released

In the interest of public safety, the Edmonton Police Service (EPS) is issuing the following warning; Curtis Poburan, 51, is a convicted sexual offender and the EPS believes he poses a significant risk of harm to the community, particularly against someone under the age of 16. As such, the EPS believes there is a duty to warn the public.

Poburan is residing in the Edmonton area after having completed his sentence and term of probation; he is no longer bound by any conditions or form of supervision.

Poburan is a diagnosed pedophile with a history of sexual offences against male children and attempting to lure them from parks and public areas. Poburan was recently subject to a public complaint where he was observed to approach children in Gariepy Park (17404 57 Avenue).   

The EPS is issuing this information and warning after careful deliberation of all related issues, including privacy concerns, in the belief that it is clearly in the public interest to inform the members of the community.
