The Edmonton Police Service is investigating a fatal collision that occurred on the Walterdale Bridge last night.

On Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at approximately 8 p.m., a marked EPS vehicle attempted a downtown-area traffic stop on a Honda Accord, which entered into a criminal flight. Officers were directed to terminate the pursuit.

Shortly after, the Honda was involved in a collision with an unrelated second vehicle on the Walterdale bridge. Bystanders pulled the 33-year-old male driver and a 29-year-old male passenger from the Honda. The driver died on scene, while the passenger was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The 21-year-old male driver of the second vehicle was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) will also be investigating this event, and as such, the EPS will not be providing further comment.
