Public information and warning:  Sexual offender released

In the interest of public safety, the Edmonton Police Service is issuing the following warning; Curtis Poburan, 51 is a convicted sexual offender and the Edmonton Police Service believes he poses a significant risk of harm to the community, particularly against someone under the age of 16 and, as such, believe there is a duty to warn the public.

Poburan is residing in the Edmonton area and was recently released on bail after being arrested on two new charges under section 264(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada, for allegedly approaching two unknown boys in a park, harassing them and causing them to reasonably fear for their safety. Poburan will be supervised by a bail officer while on release in the community.

Poburan is a diagnosed pedophile with a history of sexual offences against male children and attempting to lure them from parks and public areas.

Poburan has been released with a number of court-ordered conditions:

-   He must reside at an approved residence and not change that residence without the prior written permission of his supervisor

-       He must not attend at a public park or public swimming area where persons under the age of 16 years are present or can reasonably be expected to be present, or a daycare centre, schoolground, or community centre

-   He must not seek, obtain or continue with any employment or volunteer activity that involves being in a position of trust or authority towards persons under the age of 16 years

-   He must not have any contact including communicating by any means with a person who is under the age of 16 years, unless under the supervision of a person whom the court considers appropriate or under the written permission of his supervisor
