Autopsy confirms 25-year-old's death a homicide

An Oct. 1, 2021 autopsy conducted by the Edmonton Medical Examiner has confirmed that Samaan Wani, 25, died as a result of a gunshot wound, and that the manner of death was homicide.

Police continue to seek information on a vehicle of interest in this targeted shooting, which took place in the evening on Sep. 23 in the area of 23 Avenue and 106 Street.  Investigators believe that a black truck, possibly a Dodge Ram, that was in the area at the time may be linked to the shooting and are hopeful someone may have information about the vehicle.

Anyone who noticed a black truck or its occupants in the area of 23 Avenue and 109 Street between 8:30 p.m. and 9:15 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 23, 2021, is asked to please contact the EPS at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone. Background:

At approximately 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 23, 2021, Southeast Division officers were called to the report of a shooting in the area of 23 Avenue and 106 Street.

EMS responded, treated and transported two injured males in their 20s to hospital; however, one of the males succumbed to his injuries. The second male has since been released.
