EPS seeking public’s assistance in locating RCMP-issued items

The Edmonton Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance to locate a Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) ballistic vest carrier and canister of oleoresin capsicum (pepper spray) that were recently stolen from an RCMP vehicle parked in Edmonton.

The RCMP-issued items were stolen from an unmarked RCMP police vehicle that was parked on a residential back alley driveway in west Edmonton sometime between Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2021, at 5 p.m. and Thursday, Oct. 28, 2021, at 5 p.m.

The theft from vehicle was noticed on Thursday evening. The RCMP vehicle was damaged and a number of items were reported stolen, including an RCMP ballistic vest carrier with a name tag (no ballistic panels), an RCMP issue Sabre Oleoresin Capsicum (pepper) Spray and RCMP business cards.

In the interest of public safety, EPS and Alberta RCMP are notifying the public of these missing items.

Citizens are reminded that they can request identification from anyone identifying themselves as a police officer. When doing so, citizens can request to see the officer’s police badge as well as a police photo identification card which includes a photo of the officer, their name, date of birth and badge number.

Citizens can also call the police non-emergency number to verify an officer’s identity.

EPS investigators are releasing photos of the stolen gear below. Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of these RCMP-issued items or the individual(s) who stole them is asked to contact EPS at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone.
