The Edmonton Police Service has charged a second man in relation to a homicide that took place in early May.

Shortly before midnight on Monday, May 3, 2021, Northeast Division officers were called to the report of a deceased male at a multi-unit residence in the area of 66 Street and 120 Avenue.

Following an autopsy completed by the Edmonton Medical Examiner’s Office on Thursday, May 6, 2021, investigators initially deemed the death of 64-year-old Peter Meyer as suspicious. Meyer’s death has since been deemed a homicide, and the cause of death is blunt force trauma.

On Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2021, Justin Reil, 32, was arrested and charged with manslaughter in relation to Meyer’s death. Reil was a person of interest in the investigation and was taken into custody after presenting at police headquarters.

Reil is the second suspect charged in Meyer’s death. Jordan Difrancesco, 29, was also arrested and charged with manslaughter on Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2021. Difrancesco was known to both Reil and Meyer, though Meyer and Reil were not believed to be acquaintances.

Detectives are no longer seeking any suspects in this investigation.

There is no additional information available.
