The Edmonton Police Service arrested a 49-year-old man for a jewelry store robbery and assault that took place in central Edmonton in October.

At approximately 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2021, Downtown Division officers were called to the report of a robbery at a jeweler in the area of 115 Street and 100 Avenue.

It was reported to police that a lone male entered the business, produced a firearm, assaulted a male employee and took an undisclosed amount of jewelry. The suspect then reportedly fled the scene on foot.

EMS responded, treated and transported the 68-year-old male employee to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

On Oct. 27, 2021, Najib Sleiman, 49, was arrested in Calgary with the assistance of Calgary Police Service. Sleiman has been charged with 10 offences in connection to the Oct. 6 incident, including robbery with a firearm and aggravated assault.

“We are grateful to the CPS for their assistance, and for the support of the public and neighbouring businesses who came forward to provide crucial information that led to the identification of the accused in this violent robbery,” says Cst. Todd Sigfuson, with EPS Robbery Section.
