At approximately 6:25 p.m. yesterday evening (Feb. 23, 2022), Downtown Branch officers responded to the report of a commercial robbery with a gun at a liquor store in the area of 113 Street and 104 Avenue. The male suspect fled the scene on foot prior to police arrival.
The man was located in the area of 105 Street and 107 Avenue around 7 p.m. When the male observed officers, he reportedly fled on foot. Shortly thereafter, a confrontation occurred, officers discharged their firearms and the male subject was fatally wounded. Officers located a weapon on scene.
A second male, who was uninvolved in the reported robbery and was located in a nearby suite, was also struck and rushed to hospital by paramedics where he sadly succumbed to his injuries. The EPS would like to extend its condolences to those who are grieving as a result of this tragic incident.
Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has conduct of the investigation of this matter and the EPS will be fully cooperating with the ASIRT investigation. As such, the EPS cannot provide any additional information at this time and all further media inquiries should be directed to ASIRT.
