Autopsy complete in teen homicide

An autopsy has been completed in the death of a male youth in Southeast Edmonton.

At approximately 2:44 p.m. on Friday, Apr. 8, 2022, Southeast Branch officers responded to the report of an assault outside of McNally High School.

When police arrived on scene, they located a 16-year-old male suffering from life-threatening injuries. Police, Edmonton Fire Rescue Services, and EMS provided first aid on scene, and paramedics treated and transported the youth to hospital. Sadly, the youth succumbed to his injuries on April 15, 2022 and Homicide Section took over the investigation.

Today, Wednesday, April 20, 2022, the Edmonton Medical Examiner completed an autopsy on the youth and the cause of death was a stab wound of the chest, and the manner of death is homicide.

Investigators have identified a number of youth suspects and charges will be forthcoming.

“I want to thank the community for coming together in support of one another during this tragic loss of life,” Homicide Staff Sergeant Colin Leathem says. “We also appreciate the assistance of those who have reached out with information to help us move forward as we continue to investigate this sensitive and complex case.”
