On Tuesday, May 24, 2022, Northwest Division patrol officers responded to a call from a citizen walking their dog in the area near the old municipal airport lands (Blatchford property). The citizen had stumbled across multiple containers of suspicious chemicals and equipment.
EDGE members, fire and EMS partners were subsequently called out to the scene, where investigators confirmed the discovery was indeed a disposal site of a large-scale fentanyl clan lab that included dangerous chemicals. Close to 300 liters of various chemicals and 63 kilograms of white powders were found on scene.
Investigators seized and catalogued dozens of exhibits, some of which included chemicals used in the production of fentanyl. EPS members also located finished product on scene, as well as equipment, scales, PPE (gloves, coveralls, facemasks with cartridges) mixing equipment and flavourings. An environmental consulting company was eventually called in to destroy any remaining chemicals and reclaim the site for public safety.
This file remains under investigation with no suspects at this time. Police are asking anyone who may have information about this clan lab or those responsible for its disposal to contact the Edmonton Police Service at 780-423-4567or #377 from a mobile phone. Anonymous information can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.p3tips.com/250.
