Edmonton Police Service (EPS) officers and City of Edmonton automated enforcement issued a total of 1,485 traffic violations on Aug. 31, 2022, during the most recent Operation 24 Hours initiative.

Of the total 1,485 traffic violations, 1,286 were related to speed. There were also 199 other Traffic Safety Act violations, including 14 distracted driving violations, 183 hazardous (moving violations) and non-hazardous (equipment, document violations) and two Criminal Code (impaired, drive disqualified violations).

During the Operation 24 Hours initiative, Traffic Enforcement Section members stopped a Volkswagen Touareg on Anthony Henday Drive and Lessard Road that was travelling 160 km/h in a 100 km/h zone. The driver was issued a mandatory court summons.

The Edmonton Police Service and the City of Edmonton coordinate regular enforcement campaigns throughout the year (such as Operation 24 Hours) to improve traffic safety on Edmonton’s roadways.
