At approximately 4:45 a.m., Sunday, Dec. 18, 2022, Downtown Branch patrol officers responded to a weapons complaint at a suite near 103 Street and 106 Avenue. Upon arrival, EPS| members found a 23-year-old male suffering from serious, non-life-threatening injuries. Paramedics treated and transported the male to hospital.
While at the suite, EPS officers were directed to a secondary scene, a convenience store, near 104 Street and 107 Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found 36-year-old Ahmed Mohamed in the parking lot in medical distress suffering from life-threatening gunshot injuries. The male succumbed to his injuries on scene shortly thereafter.
On Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2022, the Edmonton Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy and confirmed Mr. Mohamed died of a gunshot wound and the manner of death is homicide.
Detectives continue to investigate and are seeking the public’s assistance identifying two witnesses, a male and a female, and the vehicle they were driving. A video clip of the witnesses and a stock photo of the vehicle are included below.
The vehicle is believed to be a newer model silver/grey Nissan Altima.
