EPS Major Collision Investigations Section (MCIS) has laid charges in a single-vehicle collision that resulted in the death of two males.
On Monday, April 4, 2022, at approximately 6:30 p.m. police received the report of a single-vehicle collision on Calgary Trail at approximately 41 Avenue SW. The vehicle, a 2014 Land Rover, was travelling southbound when it reportedly lost control, entering the centre meridian and striking a culvert.
There were three occupants of the vehicle. A 17-year-old male driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by paramedics to the hospital for treatment. A 19-year-old male passenger was removed from the Land Rover and airlifted to the hospital by STARS Air Ambulance where he succumbed to his injuries. A 16-year-old male passenger was thrown from the vehicle and was declared deceased on scene.
On January 18, 2023, police charged the 17-year-old driver of the vehicle with dangerous driving causing death (x2).
