On Thursday, Jan. 19, 2023, the EPS TRAP (Targeted Response to Auto-theft Prevention) team initiated an investigation into a series of Land Rover thefts throughout Edmonton. The suspects have specifically been targeting 2017-2021 Discovery, Range Rover and Sport models and are reportedly using sophisticated technology to defeat the vehicle’s anti-theft systems. There have been six Land Rover thefts to date.
“There have been several Land Rover models stolen over the last several days and we want vehicle owners to be aware of this so they can take extra precautions to protect their vehicles from theft,” says Acting Sergeant Jon Benson with the TRAP team.
Police encourage owners of these vehicles to park in a secure space, such a garage or in a well-lit and busy area. Owners are also advised to remove all valuables from their vehicles and to use a steering-wheel lock or an aftermarket GPS device if possible.
