Police lay charges in community league vandalism, seek witnesses and video footage

The Edmonton Police Service has charged two males in relation to the break-and-enter and vandalism of a community league in south Edmonton.

At approximately 10:38 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 31, 2022, Southwest Branch patrol officers responded to a break-and-enter to a community league building in the area of 53 Avenue and 143 Street. Upon arrival, officers located extensive damage inside, all of which is believed to have taken place in the overnight and early morning hours of Friday, Dec. 30 and Saturday, Dec. 31.

Thanks to a video posted to social media, and several tips from the public, police quickly identified two of the suspects and both males were arrested.

A 15-year-old male from Edmonton was arrested on Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2023, and has since been charged with break-and-enter to commit mischief over $5,000 and theft under $5,000. On Thursday, Jan. 12, 2023, officers also arrested and charged Carson Baggs, 19, of Spruce Grove, Alberta with break-and-enter to commit mischief over $5000 and theft under $5000

Police continue to investigate this incident and are asking anyone with information about the other suspects, believed to be between the ages of 15 and 20-years-old, to please come forward to police. Likewise, citizens with dash camera footage or home security footage from the area that captured video during the overnight and early morning hours of Friday, Dec. 30 and Saturday, Dec. 31 are encouraged to contact police as soon as possible.
