This week’s CAT deployment will focus on reducing violence and crime in and around the Whyte Avenue neighbourhoods between 99 and 109 streets.
“Whyte Avenue and the surrounding areas come alive with various festivals and events throughout the spring and summer seasons, so we’re going to increase our presence to try and ensure the safety of everyone, so they can come down to “The Avenue” and enjoy themselves,” said EPS Const. Michael Dahl, a member of the EPS Whyte Avenue Beats.
Representatives from community organizations, including REACH, Homeward Trust, Youth Empowerment and Support Services will partner with Whyte Avenue officers during the CAT deployment to try and connect vulnerable persons with services, such as housing and addiction counselling.
Note: CAT deployment partners will be handing out Crime Prevention literature and engaging the public on the south side of Whyte Avenue near 105 Street, Thursday, June 13, between 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Members of the media are welcome to attend.
The CAT deployments are highly visible and mobile, and have been successful in quickly addressing a wide range of criminal and social issues.
