In January of 2023, Downtown Patrol officers responded to a report of a kidnapping and sexual assault of a female youth who had recently arrived in Canada as a refugee. Investigators determined that an unknown male followed the youth as she left her English language class downtown. It was reported that the accused approached the youth and told her that her mother was waiting nearby to pick her up. He subsequently led her to a nearby apartment building.
Once in the building, the youth reportedly attempted to flee, but was prevented by the accused. The accused reportedly took the youth to an apartment, where he threatened her family if she resisted, and then sexually assaulted her. The youth was ultimately able to escape.
After an extensive investigation, police have identified the suspect as David Dominic, 36. He was arrested on Jan. 27, 2023 and charged with sexual assault, unlawful confinement, uttering threats, kidnapping, and choking with intent to overcome resistance.
Investigators believe there may be additional complainants, and are encouraging them to come forward. Anyone who believes they have been victimized by the accused is asked to contact the EPS at 780-423-4567or #377 from a mobile phone.
