The Edmonton Police Service continues to investigate a dozen shootings that occurred throughout the month of April.
In April, EPS launched investigations into 12 reported shootings throughout the city, 10 of which were believed to be targeted occurrences. Five of these shooting occurrences resulted in injuries to five people, one of which resulted in death.
In eight of the 12 shootings, there was the potential for innocent bystanders, including children, to be harmed.
Compared to April 2022, this month’s shooting occurrences are down by 40 per cent. There have been 57 shootings reported to EPS so far in 2023, which represents an 11 per cent increase over last year at this time, when 51 shootings were reported to EPS.
Police have seized 430 firearms thus far in 2023.
