On Apr. 7, 2023, the outstanding black Hyundai Sonata involved in the Mar. 31, 2023 drive-by shooting was located in the area of 103 Street and 131A Avenue. The vehicle was registered to Mohamed Omar, 28.
On May 5, 2023, police executed a search warrant at Omar’s residence, where they seized a loaded handgun with the serial number filed off, several 9 mm rounds and a spent 9 mm casing matching some of the casings recovered at the scene of the shooting. Omar was arrested and charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, dangerous driving and 13 firearms related charges.
Following the drive-by shooting, police located a firearm at a nearby drugstore in the area of 137 Avenue and 97 Street, where investigators determined the occupants of the Camry discarded it among the shelves. After processing this firearm with the IBIS (Integrated Ballistic Identification System) instrument, police have linked it to an active investigation in Ontario.
