Beginning tomorrow, Friday, May 19th and running throughout the spring and summer months, EPS members will partner with City of Edmonton Peace Officers on Project TENSOR, Traffic Enforcement Noise/Speed Offence Reduction.
“There’s been more than 7,400 charges issued pertaining to vehicle-related noise since 2010,” says EPS Const. Clint Stallknecht, of the EPS Traffic Safety Unit. “Project TENSOR was a tool that was initially developed to assist in reducing the number of traffic-related noise and speeding complaints, and to compel drivers to ensure compliance with Traffic Safety Act regulations.”
Through May to September of 2022, EPS issued more than 1,600 tickets, 600 Notice of Directions (repairs required) and responded to 823 noise complaints from Edmonton citizens.
Project TENSOR will continue to focus its enforcement resources on “hot spots” around the city, problem areas that police continue to receive complaints about from citizens throughout the spring and summer months.
Project TENSOR will target most traffic offences including but not limited to:
- Noise Related Offences
- Speeding
- Stunting
- Helmet Violations
- General Equipment Violations
- Occupant Restraints
- Other Hazardous Moving Violations
- Suspended Drivers
- Document Offences and
- Criminal Code Offences
