Charges laid in carjacking events

The suspect in a recent carjacking series is facing 28 charges. 

Police have charged the suspect arrested yesterday, Michael Russell Lariviere, 44, in a string of events that occurred throughout the city between May 15 and 17, including four hit-and-run collisions, two carjackings, two attempted carjackings and four robberies. His charges include the carjackings of a white Dodge Ram and a red Dodge Ram, which was involved in a collision in the area of 66 Street and 23 Avenue, where the suspect was ultimately taken into custody by police.

As of today, Thursday, May 17, 2023, Lariviere is charged with:

-Using an imitation firearm to commit an offence (x7)

-Robbery (x6)

-Failing to stop at an accident (x4)

-Assault with a weapon (x3)

-Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle (x2)

-Possession of a dangerous weapon

-Flight from a Peace Officer

-Assault causing bodily harm

-Dangerous driving causing bodily harm

-Breaches (x2)

At least two people sustained non-life-threatening injuries as a result of these incidents. The investigation is ongoing, and more charges are expected.

On Wednesday, May 17, 2023, on the direction of the Director of Law Enforcement, the EPS assumed responsibility for the investigation of the officer-involved shooting. The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) will provide oversight to the investigation.
