During the Oct. 12th event, at approximately 7:05 p.m., EPS Traffic Enforcement Section members were conducting laser speed enforcement on the Yellowhead eastbound at 82 Street, when a charcoal-coloured Dodge Ram was spotted travelling 107 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. The male driver was served with a mandatory court summons.
At approximately 10:10 p.m. that same evening, police also observed a few vehicles driving at a high rate of speed on Gateway Boulevard northbound near 51 Avenue. A 2014 Hyundai Veloster Turbo was recorded travelling 120 km/h in a 60 km/h zone. When officers attempted to pull over the Hyundai, it turned east on 63 Avenue and fled the area at a high rate of speed.
The driver of the Hyundai subsequently drove through the intersection at 99 Street, where it was involved in a minor hit-and-run with another vehicle. The vehicle and its 17-year-old driver were located later Thursday evening in Beaumont. Several tickets were issued to the male driver and his parents were notified.
