Police charge two men attempting to sell stolen vehicle

The Edmonton Police Service Targeted Response to Auto Theft (TRAP) team arrested two male suspects who attempted to sell a stolen vehicle last week.

On Monday, July 22, 2024, members of the TRAP team became aware of an investigation where suspects were attempting to sell a stolen 2021 Mazda CX5 online. Upon further investigation, TRAP officers determined the vehicle being sold was stolen. The two suspects were subsequently arrested without incident. Numerous identity documents that did not belong to either of the suspects were also seized. 

“Anyone purchasing items online through classifieds or buy and sell platforms should always take precautions,” says Acting Sgt. Rhys Chesney of the TRAP team. “When purchasing second-hand vehicles, citizens are reminded to verify the Vehicle Identification Number online to determine whether the vehicle is stolen.”

“Also, please consider utilizing a populated public space to conduct any sort of in-person transaction,” says Acting Sgt. Chesney. “A location that is well lit with surveillance cameras is recommended.”

Ledornubari Ntignee, 19, of Lethbridge, AB, was charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, traffic in stolen property over $5,000, possess identity document, possess stolen credit card, and breach condition of release order. Ntignee’s next court date is Thursday, August 1, 2024.

Royer Sopal Caldera, 21, of Lethbridge, AB, was charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, Traffic in stolen property over $5,000, possess identity document x2, and breach condition of a release order. Sopal Caldera’s next court date is Thursday, August 1, 2024.
