Edmonton Police Service Major Collision Investigation Section (MCIS) officers are investigating a fatal collision that occurred early this morning.

At approximately 3:05 a.m., today, Sunday, Sept. 22, 2024, a Mazda sedan was southbound on 149 Street when it went out of control and crossed into the northbound lanes of 149 Street at 104 Avenue. At the same time, a Ford SUV was travelling northbound on 149 Street approaching 104 Avenue when the Mazda collided with the SUV.

The 22-year-old driver of the Mazda was transported to hospital by EMS with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. An adult male (approximately mid 20s) passenger of the Mazda was transported to hospital by EMS with serious life-threatening-injuries and was pronounced deceased at hospital. The 40-year-old male driver of the SUV was transported to hospital by EMS for precautionary reasons.

It is believed that speed was a factor in this collision. MCIS continues to investigate.
