EPS officer and woman injured during arrest; ASIRT investigating

On Thursday, Oct. 10, 2024, at 9:33 a.m., Edmonton Police Service (EPS) officers responded to a report of rocks being thrown at vehicles in the area of 127 Avenue and 97 Street. When police arrived on scene, they observed a 38-year-old female who appeared to be heavily intoxicated.

When one of the officers interacted with the female, an altercation took place resulting in injuries to the officer and the female. They were both treated and transported to hospital by EMS. The officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries and the female sustained serious, non-life-threatening injuries. Charges are pending against the 38-year-old female at this time.

A 46.1 notification has since been provided to the Alberta Director of Law Enforcement, who has directed the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) to conduct an investigation into this arrest.

As such, EPS cannot provide any additional information at this time. All inquiries should be directed to ASIRT.
